COUNSELING SERVICES AND ASSIGNMENTS

The Counseling Center is staffed by people who care about students’ needs and assists them with educational planning; home, school and/or social concerns; career information; administration and interpretation of test scores; or other issues students would like to discuss with a counselor.

Each student is assigned to a counselor at the beginning of the year. High School students will work with their counselor until graduation. Counselors are available before school, after school and by appointment. To see their counselor, students should make an appointment with the counseling secretary before school, after school or during lunch.

Since the counselors respect class time, students should not ask for nor be given passes to the Counseling Office. The appointment procedure (for both students and parents) assures uninterrupted time for a conference, cuts down on classroom interruptions and prevents wasted time waiting to see a counselor. The Counseling Center has extensive information on colleges, careers, and testing schedules/applications (including SAT, ACT, PSAT, and the High School Proficiency Exam). Students are encouraged to visit the center and take advantage of the many resources available.

Your counselor is concerned about you as a person and wants to help you become an accountable and responsible student, helping you to make positive choices and get the most from your education. Your counselor will work with you by listening, discussing and communicating. Your counselor is concerned with academic and artistic counseling, career counseling, as well as personal and social counseling.

(NOTE: All counselors serve GATE Cluster/Seminar and AVID students.)
