JUNIOR YEAR CALENDAR


September
  • Register for the PSAT
  • Join California Scholarship Federation (CSF) if eligible
  • Join clubs and focus on extra-curricular activities you really enjoy
  • Review your transcript. Commit to working harder/smarter or maintaining grades
  • Colleges send reps to visit SCPA; sign up to attend meetings in counseling office
October
  • Take PSAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test
  • College Information Night at School of Creative and Performing Arts
  • Attend CAL-SOAP college fair.
November
  • Plan standardized testing schedule (e.g. SAT, ACT; avoid known calendar conflicts such as AP testing and performances)
  • Begin standardized test preparation
January
  • Register for winter and spring SAT/ACT tests.
  • Check counseling website for information about some college scholarships available to juniors.
February
  • Register for Advanced Placement (AP) exams if applicable
  • Join CSF if eligible
March
  • Plan to visit college campuses over spring break
  • Contact local colleges to schedule tours.
April
  • Register for summer school if desired
  • Continue to explore colleges on web sites and in books
  • Attend college fairs
  • Confirm with counselor course load is appropriate for college
May
  • Take Advanced Placement exams
May/June
  • Take SAT Subject tests
June/July
  • Visit colleges if possible
  • Obtain application forms and information as they become available.
  • Write a 500-word essay about yourself and your educational goals as a practice exercise
