HOW TO VOLUNTEER
School Site Council (SSC) |
Responsible for decisions on all aspects of the Single Site Plan for Student Achievement (SPSA); perform annual review of the site plan; and establish budgets associated with the plan. The SSC consists of staff members, parents, and community members. Meetings normally take place on the fourth Monday of the month at 2:15 p.m. in the SCPA Library/Media Center. Attendance at SSC meetings is a wonderful way to be involved and be a part of what is happening at SCPA. |
Governance Team |
Discuss issues and makes recommendations related to raising student achievement at SCPA. The Governance Team consists of members, elected for two year terms, representing teachers, classified staff, students, parents, and community members. All parents are welcome and encouraged to attend monthly meetings. Meetings normally take place on the second Monday of the month at 2:15 p.m. in the SCPA Library/Media Center. Attendance at governance team meetings is a wonderful way to be involved and to learn more about what is happing at SCPA! |
Friends of SCPA |
Provide essential financial support and volunteer service to SCPA. Friends dedicates its fundraising efforts and resources to:

Programs that enhance students’ arts, cultural, and academic education.

Fostering a sense of community for students, parents, and staff at SCPA.

Promoting cooperative activities with the San Diego arts community.

UJIMA |
Provides a chance to network with others – who believe that education is a priority, while reinforcing the cultural strengths of the African American students at SCPA. Students and their families are encouraged to participate. The UJIMA program is designed to be a supportive outreach for African American students, while creating an alliance with students, parents/guardians, teachers, advisors, and administrators in support of SCPA and the vast opportunities for academic and cultural enrichment. Information is given at each meeting that is designed to help you and your student/s stay informed and engaged in their academic success. |
MECHA |
Focused on improving achievement and social skills of Latino in the student population. |
Other Opportunities |
Supervision on field trips, supervision during the lunch period, organizing fund raisers, working in the library at the beginning and ending of the school year (not throughout the year), English Learner Advancement Committee, helping with mailings, etc.

*SCPA encourages all volunteers to complete the official school volunteer form and complete the TB skin test with the school nurse. Forms are available at the SCPA main office.
